Our work is grounded in community empowerment and relies on active collaboration among community members, designers, activists and storytellers.
WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT...
Documentary film, radio, and books are all mediums used by activists to inform and inspire action, but the power of the object-centric (versus art-focused) exhibition has yet to be fully utilized for change making. Exhibitions differ greatly from these other forms in that:
"With books, cinema or stage productions, the audience is usually seated and the physical interaction remains limited. Everything is tailored for mental interaction. The exhibition on the other hand allows the visitor to move about freely...The visitor may cover the route quickly or slowly, attentively or hastily, or focused on his or her own particular interest."
This participant agency is powerful, and a main reason why exhibitions should be employed by activists.
